Common Dental Procedures for Children

Dental problems in children are quite common and there are various different pediatric dental procedures available to deal with these dental problems. Dental issues are very painful and for kids, it gets a little too much of an experience. Here’s a list of five common dental procedures for children experiencing dental problems.

Dental Cleaning – Before going ahead with the dental cleaning of a child the dentist does review the medical history. Then the doctor examines the mouth region to check for oral health issues. The dental cleaning treatment involves the removal of hard tartar deposits called calculus and plaque. Post-cleaning fluoride is applied to the teeth to strengthen them against decay.

Pulp Treatment – Pulp treatment is necessary if there is some sort of injury or there is extensive tooth decay. If this treatment is not carried out it can cause discomfort to the kid due to pain, swelling, infection, and even loss of teeth.

Stainless Steel Crowns – When there is extensive decay and cannot hold white fillings, stainless steel crowns are put into use. These crowns are fit and cemented in the primary teeth of the baby so as to prevent any further damage until these teeth are naturally lost.

Tooth-Colored Fillings – When the appearance is a problem due to tooth decay or fracture in teeth, tooth-colored fillings come into use. They help restore the front and back of the teeth thus improving the cosmetic appearance. The color of the filling is kept as near to the natural color of teeth as possible.

Space Maintenance – When a child loses the primary teeth one or more prematurely, space maintainers are used. Using space maintainers becomes important because if they are not used then-new permanent teeth might not erupt in the correct position. The space maintainer is kept in the mouth till the permanent teeth replace the void area created by the extracted teeth.

Besides, dental procedures also make use of sealants, fluoride as well a dental care for the prevention and protection of teeth against decay and other issues. If your child is experiencing dental issues like cavities or decay of a tooth, make an appointment with the dentist and take advice on the further action plan. Well, ignoring the dental issues of kids thinking that only permanent teeth are important is a wrong notion, so stay aware of the dental issues in your infant or toddlers.
