Outdoor Facilities In Surgical Oncology
Indoor Facilities in Surgical Oncology
Wards
The Surgical Oncology department is part of the six floors Oncology block existing at Vydehi Institute of Medical science. It has 60 beds segregated into female and male wards. The wards are manned by trained surgical oncology nurses who provide high-end nursing care to patients who undergo complex cancer surgeries.
Intensive care
The surgical oncology department has a dedicated 6 bedded intensive care with all ventilatory and monitoring support. This helps in immediate care following prolonged and critical cancer surgeries.
Operation theatre
The department has a separate major operation theatre with HEPA filters and a laminar flow facility. It also has advanced monitors to aid in prolonged surgery performance. There are dedicated anaesthetists for oncology surgeries. There is also a minor operation theatre and a flexible scope suite.
Advanced surgical oncology equipment
To aid the surgeons in performing high-end surgeries, the surgical oncology OT has modern surgical aids. A few worth mentioning are vessel sealing devices, disposable staplers, high-end laparoscopy equipment, operating microscope for microvascular reconstructions, electromechanical units, etc. Recently, the department has been equipped with the HIPEC unit (heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy unit). HIPEC unit is present with only a few cancer centers in India.
