Paediatrics

The department of Paediatrics was started in December 2001 under 3 units. In addition to general beds, the department has a PICU with 5 beds and NICU with 10 beds.

The normal OPD timings from Monday to Friday are 9am to 4 pm. On Saturdays OPD timing is 9am to 1pm. After the normal OPD timings on weekdays, from 4pm to 9am next day, Saturday after 1pm and Sundays, the Duty Paediatrician will attend the OPD cases. The Associate Prof/Assistance Prof are available for consultations on call.

Paediatric OPD has 5 consultation rooms and an immunization room. Our patients and Admissions are managed as follows.

  • Monday and Thursday – Unit I
  • Tuesday and Friday – Unit II
  • Wednesday and Saturday – Unit III
  • Sundays – All the 3 Units on rotation.

Patients who are attending OPD in Paediatric department has facilities for cross consultation with all super specialists like Paediatric Surgeon, Cardiologist, and Neurosurgeon round the clock.

Because of the dedicated work by the staff of Paediatric Department, patients get personalized care and go home with complete satisfaction. This is evidenced by the flow of patients from within the state and also from other states especially West Bengal, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, etc.

The Department of Paediatrics provides consultations for all paediatric patients at OPD on unit basis on each day. All the patients are examined holistically and necessary treatment is given. Patients required admission are admitted in General ward which is free with no charges for consultations, beds and other procedures. Most of the investigations to admitted patients are free including Ultra sonogram except for CT scan, MRI Scan and Echocardiography. All admitted patients are provided with free breakfast, lunch and dinner. Moreover most of the routine drugs are provided from free Pharmacy.

The Department of Paediatrics provides new born services to all neonates delivered in our hospital. All the deliveries are attended by a Paediatrician.

The department of Paediatrics provides neonatal ICU care to all inborn and out born babies which require intensive care with nominal charges.

Free immunization clinic is held on every Thursdays between 10am to 1pm at OPD immunization room. Vaccines such as BCG, DPT, OPV, Hepatitis B, Measles, DT and TT are provided free of cost to all patients. Around 75 to 100 children receive the immunizations each week.

In addition to above, the following special clinics are conducted
  • Tuberculosis Clinic – Tuesdays – 2 to 4 pm
  • Asthma Clinic – Wednesdays – 2 to 4 pm
  • Well baby clinic – Thursdays – 2 to 4 pm
  • Diabetic clinic – clinic – Fridays – 2 to 4 pm

The patients in special clinics are followed up and counseled.

The Paediatrics ICU provides care to very sick children requires intensive care with nominal charges.
