Bengaluru Metro Makes History with First-Ever Organ Transport

For the first time in Bengaluru and only the second time in India, a metro rail system was used to transport a donated human organ. On August 2, 2025, a liver was moved from Vydehi Hospital to Sparsh Hospital for a critical transplant. The liver was first taken by ambulance to Whitefield Metro Station at 8:38 PM, accompanied by a doctor and a seven-member medical team. After security checks and documentation, it was loaded onto a metro train at 8:42 PM and reached Rajarajeshwarinagar Station by 9:48 PM. Metro staff then facilitated the transfer to another ambulance, which rushed it to Sparsh Hospital. The operation followed all Ministry and BMRCL protocols, marking a major milestone in emergency medical transport.
