Our Patient Say

I have been suffering lower back pain and sciatica pain for years. It got particularly bad last year when I would get sudden back spasms. When I would get those spasms, I would get electric shocks through my back and body and would collapse to the ground. I would not be able to sleep properly – turning on the bed was painful. Wearing my pants was an event, and sitting for more than 20 minutes was not possible. Standing for longer than an hour and walking more than a mile was difficult as well as I would be fatigued easily with my IT band and muscles in my back bracing up. This chronic pain was affecting my mood, and ability to be with my family or be available at work. I live in California, and after talking to the doctors the option was Physical therapy. However, PT would drain me, and my desire to do PT was low because of the constant pain. When I traveled to Bengaluru in May’22, I decided to stop at Vydehi hospital – due to its reputation for having caring talented doctors and staff. I did all sorts of tests including MRI, and USG, and met with neuro/ortho specialists. In addition, I decided to check out the Pain Medicine clinic whose head was Dr. Kalpana.Dr. Kalpana really understood the severity of the pain that I was going through and suggested a course of action for dealing with pain. She proposed this and mentioned it as a temporary – up to 6 months of relief in some cases, as a way to deal with immediate pain and thus allow me to get back to some physical therapy/core yoga to strengthen core muscles. She was confident that the Epidural procedure to reduce pain in the lower back would be very effective. She not only suggested an Epidural procedure but also recommended shots in the bursa and shots to the piriformis area. All three procedures together did immediate wonders for me. Within a week, I found sciatica and lower left back pain disappear. I kept looking for pain but couldn’t find it. The feeling was something I hadn’t felt for a really really long time. I was able to get back into exercising and strengthening my core muscles through core yoga. It has been amazing to not have to look for a bed nearby when sitting becomes tough. In nearly four weeks, my sciatica is reduced more than 90% of the way – long-distance driving can cause it to come back. My goal is to continue this path of strengthening my core muscles until my body is stronger and able to manage pain-free. Thank you for the right diagnosis and for recommending a path to get back to stronger health.
