Instructions for Clean catch mid stream Urine sample collection PREPARATION:
Wash your hands with soap and water.
Ensure that you have the sterile urine collection container with you.
Women:
Sit on the toilet with your legs spread apart. Using two fingers of one hand spread the labia (folds of skin around the vaginal opening) apart.
Wash the area between the labia using soap and water or using anti septic wipes, wiping front to back. Make sure that using a sterile wipe you wipe only once.
Men:
Clean the head / tip of the penis with soap and water or sterile wipes. If you are not circumcised, you will need to pull back (retract) the foreskin first.
PROCEDURE TO COLLECT THE URINE SAMPLE :
Keeping your labia spread open in women / keeping foreskin retracted in uncircumcised men, urinate a small amount into the toilet bowl, then without stopping the flow of urine, move the sterile container into the stream and collect urine in the sterile container until it is half full. Once you have enough urine in the container, remove the container and finish off passing the rest of your urine into the toilet.
AFTER COLLECTING THE SAMPLE:
Screw the lid tightly on the container. Do not touch the inside of the cup or the lid. Keep it at the designated place as instructed by the health check staff. Then wash your hands again.
