World Breastfeeding Week Celebrated at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre
The Department of Paediatrics, Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2026 with a series of educational and awareness activities under the theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.”
The celebrations aimed to promote the importance of breastfeeding, encourage evidence-based infant feeding practices, and empower mothers, healthcare professionals, students, and the community with accurate information.
As part of the celebrations, a Poster Presentation Competition was conducted for nursing students and interns, highlighting key messages on breastfeeding and maternal-child health.
An interdepartmental Quiz Competition was organized for postgraduate students of Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, covering breastfeeding, infant and young child feeding, maternal and new-born health, and evidence-based practices.
A dedicated Breastfeeding Counselling Session was conducted for postnatal mothers, focusing on exclusive breastfeeding, correct positioning and attachment, common breastfeeding concerns, and the importance of continued support.
The celebrations culminated with a Breastfeeding Awareness Meet for the General Public on 07 August 2026, where healthcare professionals addressed common myths and misconceptions and highlighted the importance of family and community support for successful breastfeeding.
Through these initiatives, the Department of Paediatrics reaffirmed its commitment to promoting breastfeeding and strengthening maternal and child health, while creating greater awareness and support for breastfeeding mothers in the community.
