The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) of the Government of Karnataka shall conduct the centralized counseling for the UG course (Medical-MBBS), and seats are allotted by merit selection which is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET – UG) conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria regarding age and Qualifying Marks as per Medical Council of India, Regulations on Graduate Medical Education,1997 Rule 4 Admission to the Medical Course – Eligibility Criteria.

Duration of the Course
Every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over 4 ½ academic years divided into 4 Phases from the date of commencement of his study for the subjects comprising the medical curriculum to the date of completion of the examination and followed by one year of compulsory rotating Medical internship(CRMI).

Postgraduate Degree (MD/MS) courses

Eligibility Criteria –
Candidates in possession of the MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized as per the provisions of the NMC Act, 2019 and the repealed Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and possessing permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the NMC/ the erstwhile Medical Council of India or State Medical Council and have completed one year of internship or are likely to complete the internship on or before the prescribed cut-off for a particular admission session, and are eligible in NEET-PG conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

Period of Training
The period of training for the award of various postgraduate degrees or diplomas shall be as follows:

1)Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) / Master of Surgery (M.S.): The period of training for obtaining these degrees shall be three completed years, including the period of examination.

2)Provided that in the case of students having a recognized two-year postgraduate diploma course in the same subject, the period of training, including the period of examination, shall be two years.

Super Speciality (DM/M.Ch) Courses

Eligibility Criteria –
Candidates who are in possession of a recognized post-graduate medical Degree/Provisional Pass Certificate (MD/MS/DNB) or an equivalent recognized qualification or are likely to be in possession of the same by the prescribed cut-off date for a particular admission session in accordance with eligible feeder specialty qualifications for super specialty courses are eligible in NEET-SS conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of DGHS, MOHFW & FW, and GOI shall conduct the All India counseling for all SS courses (DM/MCh.), and seats are allotted by merit selection which is based on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET – SS) conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

Period of Training
The period of training for the award of various post-graduate degrees or diplomas shall be as follows:

Doctor of Medicine (D.M.) / Master Chirurgiae (M.Ch.)
The period of training for obtaining these degrees shall be three completed years (including the examination period) after obtaining M.D./M.S. degrees or equivalent recognized qualification in the required subject.

Fellowship Course (Intensive Care Medicine)

PhD Courses

Eligibility Criteria –
Medical: Candidates with M.D. or M.S or Medical P.G. Diploma, M.Sc. in medical subjects under Medical Faculty (3 years course from a Medical College) are eligible for enrollment for the PhD course in concerned subjects only.

The Students who secure 50th percentile and above in the PhD Entrance Examination conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences are declared selected for admission to PhD courses as per the calendar of events, and such result is valid for two terms (for that academic year and next academic year) subject to availability of guides.

Selection of Candidates
All the candidates intending to register for the PhD program shall appear for the entrance test conducted by the University.

An Entrance Test shall be a qualifying test with qualifying marks as 50th Percentile. The percentile method is adopted for the declaration of the result. The University reserves the right to lower this percentile limit in case the number of candidates who have cleared the PhD entrance examination is very low. This shall be given effect with the approval of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. The test consists of two papers, conducted over two sessions of three hours. The syllabus of the first theory paper consists of Basics of research methodology and will carry 50 marks. (10X5) The Second theory paper, which will be subject-specific, preferably with the competence of PG standard, will carry 50marks. (10X5) There shall be eight questions, each with ten marks. The candidate shall answer any five questions out of eight questions in both papers.

The marks scored by the candidate for both the papers put together be considered for deciding the pass criteria.

The percentile method is adopted for the declaration of the results. Faculty wise 50th percentile shall be the cut-off point to declare for having passed the PhD entrance examination.

If multiple candidates score equal marks in the entrance examination, the ranking will be based on marks scored in the Post-Graduation examination. In case the Post-Graduation marks are also the same, then Under Graduate marks will be considered. If the Under Graduate marks are also the same, then the candidate who is senior in age will be considered for a higher ranking.

An interview/viva-voce to be organized by the University for the candidates who successfully clear the entrance test and are selected for the PhD course to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted University PhD Registration committee of the respective faculty.

The interview/viva voce will also consider the following aspects, viz. whether:

  • To evaluate the research aptitude of the applicants.
  • The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research.
  • The research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution/College.
  • The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.

There will be only one stream of admission annually. The eligibility secured at the entrance test is valid for admission as per the calendar of events, and such marks are valid for two terms (for that academic year and the next academic year).

The Colleges under the University which are allowed to conduct PhD programs shall decide on an annual basis through their academic bodies a predetermined and manageable number of PhD scholars be admitted, depending on the number of available Research Guides (not exceeding the permissible number of Scholars in each department) and other academic and physical facilities available. They shall follow the norms regarding the scholar-guide ratio, laboratory, library, and such other facilities as prescribed by the University.

The University will notify well in advance through the University website regarding the criteria for admission, the procedure for admission, details of entrance test centre(s), and all other relevant information for the benefit of the candidates.

The University shall maintain the list of all the PhD registered students on its website on a year-wise basis. The list shall include the name of the registered candidate, the topic of his/her research, the name of his/ her Guide/co-Guide, and the date of enrolment/registration

Duration of the Ph.D. Programme: 

  1. The period of training for Ph.D as per MCI, shall be two years for candidates who possess M.D/M.S/P.G. Diploma, and for three years for candidates possessing M.Sc. in medical subjects under Medical Faculty (3years course from a Medical College)
  2. Where the candidate, Ph. D guide and the research department are in the same institution, the course duration for full time course is three years and for part time course it is four years for all faculty except those under 1.
  3. Where the guide and research department are from one institution and the candidate is from another institution affiliated to RGUHS, the minimum course duration for Part time Ph.D. shall be for five years. The registration of candidates for Ph.D will not be considered, if the candidate, guide and research department are in three different places.
  4. The Ph.D. programme in all other subjects except those cited at 1 above shall be for a minimum duration of three years for full time course and five year for part time course. For Ph. D in medical faculty, maximum duration shall be 5 years both for part time and full time course. Maximum duration shall be seven years including course work from the date of his/her provisional registration for all other faculty.
  5. Extension beyond the above limits may be considered by the Ph.D. Registration committee of the respective faculty on case to case basis. Only in exceptional cases, the maximum duration can be extended for one more year based on the representation submitted by the student and the guide. This provision can be applied only with the approval of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
  6. The candidates with more than 40% disability may be allowed a relaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration.
  7. The women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of Ph.D. for up to 240 days. However, during the course of Ph. D Period a candidate has to make up for this lost period by working for equivalent additional period. Note: In case of relocation of a Ph.D. scholar due to marriage or otherwise, the research data shall be allowed to be transferred to the University to which the scholar intends to relocate, with prior consent of the Guide provided all the other conditions in these regulations are followed in letter and spirit and the research work does not pertain to the project secured by the parent institution/Guide from any funding agency. The scholar will however give due credit to the parent guide and the institution for the part of research already done. This relocation should be done with the approval of the Ph.D. Registration committee of the respective faculty and approval of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
  8. The contact period for Part time Ph.D Student shall be 45 days for every 6 months. The candidate has to submit attendance certificate duly signed by the Guide and the Principal for this period through proper Channel along with half yearly reports.
  9. Part Time facility provided for pursuing Ph.D Programme can be availed ONLY by teaching faculty working in colleges affiliated to RGUHS and eligible candidates working in department of different Institutions/Industry/Hospitals recognized by RGUHS as Ph.D research centres. Foreign nationals are eligible for only full time Ph. D course. Such of the faculty from outside the state/University who wishes to apply for Ph. D course can apply only for full time Ph. D course.

Duration of the courses

  • The duration shall be for a period of three years and one year of Internship for B. Sc Courses.
  • The duration shall be for a period of two years and one year of Internship for M. Sc Courses.

Eligibility Criteria
A candidate seeking admission to the Bachelor of Science Degree Courses in the Allied Health Sciences course shall have studied English as one of the principle subjects during the tenure of the course, and for those seeking admission to the Bachelor of Science Degree Courses in the Allied Health Sciences courses above except for B.Sc. Imaging Technology shall have passed:

  • Two-year Pre-University examination or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as principle subjects of study.
    OR
  • Pre-Degree course from a recognized University considered as equivalent by RGUHS (Two years after ten years of schooling) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as principlesubjects of study.
    OR
  • Any equivalent examination recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, for the above purpose with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as principlesubjects of study.
    OR
  • The vocational higher secondary education course conducted by Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Government of Kerala with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in addition to vocational subjects conducted is considered equivalent to plus TWO examinations of Government of Karnataka Pre University Course.
    OR
  • Candidates with two years diploma from a recognized Government Board in a subject for which the candidate desires to enroll in the respective Allied Health Sciences course shall have passed plus 12 [10+2] with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, as principle subjects or candidates with 3 years diploma from a recognized Government Board in a subject for which the candidate desires to enroll, in the respective Allied Health Sciences course should have studied Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as principle subjects during the tenure of the course.

Lateral entry to the second year for allied health science courses for candidates who have passed diploma program from the Government Boards and recognized by RGUHS, fulfilling the conditions specified, and these students are eligible to take admission on lateral entry system only in the same subject studied at diploma level from the academic year 2008-09 vide RGUHS Notification no. AUTH/AHS/317/2008-09 dated 01.08.2008.

In case of admission to B.Sc. Imaging Technology or B.Sc. Radiotherapy Technology, the candidate should have passed Pre-University or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics as principle subjects of study.

Note:

  • The candidate shall have passed individually in each of the principle subjects.
  • Candidates who have completed a diploma or vocational course through Correspondence shall not be eligible for any of the courses mentioned above.

Under Graduate Course- Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT)

Qualifying Examination
A Candidate seeking admission to first year Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT):

  • Should have passed two years Pre University examinations conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State, with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology individually also.
    OR
  • Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate examination established by State Government/Central Government and recognized as equivalent to a two-year Pre University Examination by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/ Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology individually also.
    OR
  • Candidates who have completed a Pre-university course with Vocational Physiotherapy as their optional subject are eligible for admission to the BPT course.

Selection of Candidates

  • The selection of students for a course of Physiotherapy shall be based on merit provided that:
  • In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission to BPT course must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English and must have obtained not less than 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled
  • Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology together in the qualifying examination is not less than 40% instead of 45% as above.

Age

  • A candidate seeking admission to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission.
  • Every candidate, before admission to the course, shall furnish to the Principal of the Institution a certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Government Medical Officer to the effect that the candidate is physically fit for undergoing a Physiotherapy course.

Duration of the Course
The duration of the BPT Course shall be four and half years, including an internship of six months.
