Vydehi Institutional Ethics Committee (VIEC) registered with Department of health research (DHR) and DCGI with a scope to review all clinical research such as Phase 1 to 3 sponsored studies (clinical trials), phase 4 post marketing studies, medical devices studies, epidemiological studies, MD/MS dissertations, PhD thesis studies under RGUHS conducted at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (VIMS&RC) involving human subjects. The committee has reviewed and permitted more than 30 clinical trials in the last 6 years including the COVID-19 vaccine trial. In the month of November 2020, VIMS&RC was selected by ICMR as one of 24 phase 3 COVAXIN clinical trial sites in India for BHARATH Bio-tech Company. The trial enrolled more than 500 participants for 3 months with double blind placebo controlled study protocol. The monitoring of these clinical trials was also done by VIEC as per the regulatory authority’s guidelines.
VIMS&RC, in alignment with its continuous commitment to uphold ethical standards and ensure the responsible dissemination of knowledge has instituted a mandatory requisite for all staff members and students that before engaging in activities such as writing books, contributing to chapters, developing websites, creating apps, filing patents and publishing research articles, must mandatorily obtain permission from VIEC. The use of anti-plagiarism software authenticate possessed by the institution for all publications from VIMS&RC is made mandatory by VIEC.
