Nephrology is the study of kidneys and disorders associated with them.<\/p><p>Our specialists are well versed and have expertise in treating different kidney disorders. They use evidence-based treatments to offer a multi-disciplinary approach to resolve ailments related to kidneys. The department administers comprehensive nephrology services, including:<\/p><ul><li>Nephrology Consultation<\/li><li>Haemodialysis services to inpatients and outpatients<\/li><li>Peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)<\/li><li>Renal transplantation<\/li><li>Nephrology consultation is available from 9 AM to 4 PM on all working days.<\/li><li>The Haemodialysis unit at Vydehi Hospital collaborates with Fresenius Medical Care (Dialysis Service) India Pvt. Ltd. to provide quality dialysis at an affordable cost. Including the two, several other conditions can harm the kidneys.<\/p><ul><li>Diabetes is a condition where the body does not produce the ideal insulin levels to control sugar levels. Improper sugar levels damage the functioning of various organs, including the kidneys, heart, blood vessels, eyes, and nerves.<\/li><li>High blood pressure or hypertension occurs when the pressure exerted by the blood against the walls of your blood vessels increases. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can be a leading cause of chronic kidney disease, heart attacks, and strokes.<\/li><li>Glomerulonephritis is a disease that causes inflammation in the kidneys.<\/li><li>Inherited diseases like polycystic kidney disease cause cysts\u2019 formation in the kidneys.<\/li><li>Worsening chronic kidney disease builds high levels of waste products and fluid in your blood, making you sick. This may lead to developing high blood pressure, anaemia, weak bones, poor nutritional health, and nerve damage. Your check-up should include:<\/p><ul><li>Checking your blood pressure.<\/li><li>Having a simple test for protein in your urine. Protein is an essential building block in your body. Any filtered protein is reabsorbed and kept in your body. However, when your kidneys are damaged, the protein leaks into your urine. There are different tests to find protein in your urine. If you have two positive tests over several weeks, you have persistent protein in your urine. This is a sign of chronic kidney disease.<\/li><li>Having a simple blood test for creatinine, a waste product that comes from muscle activity. Your kidneys remove creatinine from your blood. When your kidneys are damaged, your blood creatinine builds to a high level. The results will measure your glomerular filtration rate, or GFR, which tells the percentage at which the kidney is working.<\/li><\/ul><h6>Symptoms of Disease<\/h6><p>Most people do not have any severe symptoms until their kidney disease gets worse. However, some of the indications of CKD are:<\/p><ul><li>Muscle cramps at night<\/li><li>Swollen feet and ankles<\/li><li>Puffiness around your eyes, especially in the morning<\/li><li>Feel more tired<\/li><li>Loss of energy to perform routine tasks<\/li><li>Confused Thinking<\/li><li>Poor appetite<\/li><li>Trouble sleeping<\/li><li>Dry and itchy skin<\/li><li>Need to urinate more often, especially at night.<\/li><\/ul><h6>If at increased risk but not yet have chronic kidney disease?<\/h6><p>You should visit your doctor or clinic for regular check-ups and tests for chronic kidney disease.
