The department also trains the post graduate (M.D. Pharmacology) students. Since June 2015 the department has also initiated Ph.D Programme.<\/p><p>The department has facilities and infrastructure to fulfil the objectives of the course as per the\u00a0Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences and National Medical Council. The students have the opportunity for a good amount of interaction with the faculty which helps them understand their subjects better.\u00a0<\/p><p>Also, interested students take up short academic projects funded by ICMR and RGUHS under the mentorship of faculties. Skills are imparted through computer assisted learning, simulations, and interactive sessions. The Department offers two electives to undergraduate medical students. These are on Clinical Research and Pharmacokinetics. The electives train students on various aspects of research methodology, come up with a topic for research, protocol preparation till submission to the scientific committee of the hospital, and pharmacokinetics in safe medication practices.\u00a0<\/p><p>The faculty and the post graduates are involved in research activities in addition to teaching. They participate in various national and international conferences and have published papers.<\/p><p>The Department also runs\u00a0the\u00a0<strong><b>Pharmacovigilance unit<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0(Adverse drug reaction monitoring centre, AMC) which is recognized by the\u00a0Pharmacovigilance Programme of India\u00a0(PVPI) under Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission and WHO. Recently, the department started contributing to the Materiovigilance Program of India.\u00a0The department collaborates with pharmaceutical industries, and other academic Institutions for awareness and workshops on the hospital functioning of Pharmacovigilance and overall patient safety. The department actively contributes to clinical research and medication safety awareness during the International Clinical Trials Day (May 20<sup>th<\/sup>), and medication safety week (September 17 to 23<sup>rd<\/sup>).\u00a0<\/p><p>The department is also actively involved in NABH management of medication of Vydehi hospital. They are involved in monthly prescription audits, and training of hospital staffs in areas related to management of medication as part of Pharmacy &amp; Therapeutic Committee (P&amp;T) of the Vydehi hospital.<\/p><p>The department also has pre-clinical facilities for animal studies, under the supervision of CCSEA.<\/p><p>The department hosts the yearly webinar series \u201cPHARMAQUEST\u201d, and publishes the newsletter \u201cPharmAcNews\u201d. During the event, undergraduates participate in pharmacology concept maps \u201cPharmacology on a chart\u201d. The best team is awarded Col. There are four demonstration rooms, 6O sq. each, with a sitting capacity of 90 students. Teaching is conducted by means of black board, overhead projector, and LCD projector.<\/p><p><strong><b>Undergraduate teaching\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/p><p>Students get hands on training during practical exercises with the help of computer aided simulation of animal experiments. They study the effects of various groups of drugs. They are also taught Clinical pharmacology and therapeutics in the form of clinical problems, Adverse drug reaction reporting, Drug dose calculations, dosage forms, Drug promotional literature, Pharmacokinetics exercises, Fixed Dose combinations, drug interactions &amp; prescription writing.\u00a0Students learn pharmacology through didactic lectures, tutorials, practical demonstration simulation experiments and role plays.
